I got into dentistry because when I was in high school, my best friend's dad was a dentist, and he convinced me to go to work with him one day, and on that first day I saw him relieving pain, I saw him restoring smiles. It was really, really impressive. Then he delivered dentures to a woman who had not had teeth in five years, and I think I cried harder than she did. It was such a powerful moment for me, and I've been in love with this career ever since.
I went to Chapel Hill for undergrad and dental school, so I was there for eight years and I loved it, but I'm glad to be done. Every year, Dr. Tim and I take countless hours of continuing education classes, and that allows us to expand our offerings in-house, giving more and more services at a high level of expertise and quality.
The most rewarding part about dentistry is the opportunity to participate in some of the transformations that we've done. When you take a patient who is avoiding smiling or hiding their mouth in a job interview, when you take that person and give them a smile, it is life changing for the patient, and honestly for me too. It's been an absolutely rewarding journey, and I'm very grateful I get to participate in that.
A North Carolina native, Dr. Nina Thomas was raised in the small town of Rockingham. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She stayed Carolina blue to complete her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, too.
Dr. Nina knew she wanted to be a dentist by the time she was 17 years old. Now that Dr. Nina has her own family-oriented practice, her goal is simple: to help her patients reach their optimal oral health so they can enjoy the benefits of a healthy and beautiful smile.
One of Dr. Nina’s biggest driving forces is her patients, and she is committed to providing them with the best care possible. She completes continuing education courses every year in all areas of dentistry, from smile makeovers to clear aligner trays to straighten teeth to general dentistry for patients from 0 to 100. Everyone has different needs and goals for their smile, and Dr. Thomas is actively expanding her knowledge and skills in order to provide her patients with the most comprehensive dental care possible.
When Dr. Nina isn’t practicing dentistry, you’ll find her enjoying time with her husband, Tim, who is also a dentist, their two children, and their Boston terrier, Bella.
